Congratulations on embarking on the journey towards your Swedish driver’s licence! The risk education part 2 will take you one step closer to your goal, and we want to make sure that this part of the road runs as smooth as possible.

That is why we have asked Joakim Bruhn, education manager at Stora Holm Trafikövningplats, to give you some useful tips in preparation for the risk education.

How should I prepare for the course?

The course Risk 2 lasts around 4 hours. It is quite a long time to go on an empty stomach so make sure you eat something before the course starts so that you have the energy to take in new information.

Part of the course takes place outside so wear clothes that keep you warm and dry.

What can I expect from the course?

We always start with an introduction inside where we discuss traffic safety and the risks related to driving on slippery surfaces.

After the theoretical introduction you will test drive the car to get a feel for it before we start the exercise. During the driving exercise you will get to do hard brakes on both dry and icy roads.

When we finish the driving exercise we move into our “safety room” where you will learn about practical safety measures such as safe tires. You will also get to experience the effect of a seat belt through a simulated, low-speed car crash. Finally, you will have a chance to experience the feeling of being turned upside down in a car.

How much driving experience do I need to have before I book the course?

It is important that you are at the end of your training so that you have experienced different traffic situations. During the course you will need to be able to start a car, accelerate quickly and slam on the brakes. Also if you are a good enough driver you will learn more, and have more fun.

The first exercise we do is a hard brake on asphalt. This is where you show us that you know how to brake a car. It is extremely important that you know how to use the breaks before you come to do the risk 2 course, so make sure to practice at home.

For the second exercise we move over to our icy, slipper roads. You use the same technique as on the asphalt but here it obviously become more difficult.

What happens if I do not have enough experience of driving a car?

If you are unable to brake or drive independently, we will have to stop the course for safety reasons.

What type of cars do we drive?

All our cars have an automatic gearbox and most of our cars are electric vehicles.

Do I sit in the car by myself?

Yes, you drive independently and there is no one in the car to ask for advice. Exciting, right?!

What languages do you speak?

We have courses in Swedish and in English. It is important that you both understand and can express yourself in the language spoken in the course.

If you do not understand Swedish or English you will need to bring a translator. Please contact us for more information.

Do I need to be worried about the spread of Covid-19 when I attend a course at Stora Holm?

We take the health of our customers very seriously and we follow the recommendations outlined by the Swedish authorities. You can read more about our safety measures here.

If you have any symptoms of covid-19 we kindly ask that you stay at home. If you miss a course due to covid-related reasons we offer free rebooking.
